After losing their first two games of the season, the Red Wings have made up for it and are now one of the hottest team's in the NHL. Here's 3 things the team needs to do(or continue to do) to stay atop of the league;
-Defense Is Key
One thing the Red Wings didn't do last offseason, upgrading the blue line, concerned many fans about how the team would do, especially without Niklas Kronwall to start the season, but Detroit has surprisingly done very well on defense so far and that will need to continue for Detroit to keep winning games throughout the year.
Larkin, who was one of the top performers last season for the Wings in his rookie year, will have to avoid the dreaded sophomore slump and continue to build off of his outstanding rookie year to help the Wings. After a slow start, Larkin has started to pick it up with a two goal night against the Hurricanes in last nights game.
Despite sneaking into the playoffs last year, Detroit's offense was terrible. The team hopes that offseason signees Frans Nielsen and Tomas Vanek will help fuel the offense on top of hopeful bounce back years from players like Gustav Nyquist and Tomas Tatar will help the team move up in that category. Detroit will need it to happen if they want to further extend their playoff streak.
