Some notes on a struggling Dallas Stars team that lost another one last night against Edmonton;
-Injuries have been a huge problem for the Stars so far this season, and that is just one of the many issues contributing to the team's lackluster record and position in the standings. Key players headlined by Jason Spezza, Patrick Sharp, Jiri Hudler, Cody Eakin, and Ales Hemsky have all been sidelined to various injuries, which has caused a revolving door of players that the Stars have had to put in the lineup to fill those positions.
-With the exception of Patrick Eaves, Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin have been the main sources of scoring for the Stars. While that's no surprise, the issue is Dallas will need their depth to start adding some production if they want to start winning games again.
-Goaltending has been a disaster for the Stars to this point with Kari Lehtonen(.889 SV%) and Antti Niemi(.900 SV%) simply not getting things done in net. Something's got to give at some point and Stars GM Jim Nill will have look to make some type of move to address the problem that's one of the main reasons for the Stars struggles.
-Which brings us to this point. We haven't heard much about Nill looking into trades, but you have to wonder whether that thinking has changed because of the goaltending and injuries. The trade market typically doesn't offer much this early in the season, but adding depth is going to be key for Nill and the Stars going forward.
