The NHL trade deadline is almost upon us and here's what you need to know about some of the big trade chips available(with potentially more being added in the coming days).
-Veterans on the move;
Shane Doan(Coyotes) and Jarome Iginla(Avalanche) highlight the list of the top veteran players that could be on the move by March 1st. Others could include Tomas Vanek(Red Wings), Martin Hanzal(Coyotes), Brian Boyle(Lightning), PA Parenteau(Devils), Patrick Eaves(Stars), and Alexandre Burrows(Canucks).
-Big Fish on the Market;
For teams going all in and don't mind paying the price it would take, these are the players for you.
Teams in need of a top defenseman could look to acquire Blues defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk, who would easily provide a huge boost to any contending teams' blue line. However, it will cost a pretty penny to pry him away from St. Louis, as their reported asking price is a 1st round pick plus two prospects, despite the fact that Shattenkirk is a rental player.
For teams in need of a goaltending boost at the deadline, Lightning goaltender Ben Bishop could be had for the right price. He, like Shattenkirk, is strictly a rental and an acquiring team may have to pay a big price for his services.
With the Colorado Avalanche stuck in the NHL cellar once again, they are set to entertain offers for just about anyone on their roster. That means Matt Duchene, Gabriel Landeskog, and Tyson Barrie could all be moved along with the already mentioned Jarome Iginla. Duchene and Landeskog would easily bring big offense to any NHL team's lineup, and combined with their still young ages, it will take a ton to get either player.
Be sure to stay up to date with the latest NHL rumors as we get closer to what could be a very hectic trade deadline.
